Present Continuous Tense

Syntax (Structure)


Active Voice

                    Subject + H.V ( is, are, am) + verb 1st  form + ing + object.

 

Note

       Subject + is + verb 1st form + ing + object.

           He, She, it singular noun.

 

Note

      Subject + are + verb 1st form + ing + object.

       They, We, you, plural noun.

 

Note

         Subject + am + verb 1st form + ing+ object.

 

Passive Voice

                    Subject + H/V (is, are, am) + being + 3rd form of verb + by + object.

 

Implementing (Examples)

Positive sentences

(1) A/V: I am taking the computer classes.

      P/V: The computer classes are being taken by me.

(2) A/V: We are collecting the money from people.

      P/V: The money is being collected by us from people.

(3) A/V: They are reading the Newspapers.

     P/V: The Newspapers are reading by them.

(4) A/V: You are changing the college uniform.

     P/V:  The college uniform is changed by you.

(5) A/V: Aslam is killing the Lion.

     P/V : The Lion is killed by Aslam.

 (6) A/V: She is learning her lesson.

      P/V: Her lesson is learned by her.

 

Syntax(Structure) Negative

Formula

A/V, Subject + h/v (is , are , am) + not + verb 1st form + ing + object.

 

Note

     Subject + is + not + verb 1st form + ing + object.

      She, he, it singular noun.

 

Note

        Subject + are + not + verb 1st + ing + object.

          They, we, you plural noun.

 

Note

      Subject + am + not + verb 1st form + ing + object.

P/V: Subject + h/v (is , are , am) + not + being + verb 3rd form + by + object.

 

Examples

(1) A/V: They are not making the noise in room.

       P/V: The noise is not being made by them in room.

(2) A/V: you are not searching the difficult words in dictionary.

     P/V: The difficult words are not being searched by you in dictionary.

(3) A/V: She is not washing his room.

     P/V: His room is not being washed by him.

(4) A/V: She is not passing the 10th class exam.

     P/V: The 1oth exam is not being passed by her.

(5) A/V: We are not winning the cricket match.

     P/V: The cricket match is not being won by us.

 

Syntax (Structure) Interrogative

Formula

A/V: Is , are , am + subject + verb 1st form + ing+ object?

Formula

A/V: Is , are ,am + subject +being verb 3rd form + by + object?

 

Examples

(1) A/V: Is we buying the new clothes for Eid?

 P/V: Are the new clothes being bought by us for Eid?

(2) A/V: Are they water being bringing the water from Spring?

     P/V: Is the water being brought by them from Spring?

(3)A/V: Are you catching the ball?

     P/V:Is the ball being caught by you?

(4)A/V: Is she checking my notebooks?

    P/V: Are my notebooks cheeked by her?

(5) A/V: Is he taking exercise?

   P/V: Is exercise being taken by him?

(6) A/V: Is Ahmad singing a song?

     P/V: Is song being sung by Ahmad?

(7) A/V: Are the gardeners watering the plants?

     P/V: Are the plants being watered by the gardeners?

(8) A/V: Is I watching the cricket match on T.V?

     P/V: Is the cricket being watched by me on T.V?

 

Syntax (Structure) Negative + Interrogative

Formula

         A/V: Are, am, is, + subject + not + verb 1st form + ing + object?

 

Examples

  (1) A/V: Is she not making the noise?

       P/V: Is the noise not being made by her?

(2) A/V: Is he not reciting the holy Quran?

      P/V: Is the deewa radio not listened by Saleem?

(3) A/V: Is Saleem not listening the deewa radio?

      P/V: Is the deewa radio not being listened by Saleem?

(4) A/V: Are they not playing the cricket?

     P/V: Is the cricket not being played by them?

(5) A/V: Are you not washing your clothes?

     P/V:  Are your clothes not being washed by you?

(6) A/V: Are we not speaking truth?

P/V: Is truth not being spoken by us?

 

                           WXSV

(1) A/V: Who is he doing work?

     P/V: By whom work is being done by him?

 

                                PATAP

P= Preposition, A= Adjective, T=Time express, A= Adverb, P= Place.

 

I eat wisely in the morning at my home. (Wisely is adjective) (in is preposition) (Morning is time) (at is preposition) (My home is place.
