Past Indefinite Tense


Syntax (Structure)


Active Voice

                    Subject+ verb 2nd form + object.

 

Passive Voice

                 Subject+ H/V (was + were) + verb 3rd form + by + object.

 

Implementing (Examples)

Positive Sentences

(1) A/V: We changed our clothes.

     P/V: Our clothes were changed by us.

(2) A/V: You sang a song.

     P/V: A song was sung by you.

(3) A/V: They brought the food from market.

     P/V: The food was brought from market by them.

(4) A/V: She listened the news about Junaid Jamshid.

    P/V: The news was listened by her about Junaid Jamshid Sahib.

(5) A/V: He ate the bread with butter.

     P/V: The bread was eaten by him with butter.

(6) A/V: I squeezed my clothes.

     P/V: My clothes were squeezed by me.

(7) A/V: Bilal played cricket with friends.

     PlV: Cricket were played by Bilal with friends.

 

Syntax (Structure) Negative

Formula

A/V: Subject + did not + verb 1st form + object.

 

Formula

P/V:  Subject+ (was, were) + not + verb 3rd form + by + object.

 

Examples

(1) A/V: They did not make a noise.

 P/V: A noise was not made by them.

(2) A/V: We did not collect the papers.

     P/V: A paper were not collected by us.

(3) A/V: She did not take the computer classes.

     P/V: The computer classes were not taken by her.

(4) A/V: He did not pluck the flowers.

      P/V: The flowers were not plucked by him.

(5) A/V: You did not clean your room.

      P/V: Your room was not cleaned by you.

(6) A/V: I did not charge my clothes.

      P/V: My clothes were not changed by me.

(7) A/V: Shazia and Maria did not sing a song.

      P/V: A song was not sung by Shazia and Maria.

 

Syntax (Structure) Interrogative


Formula

         A/V:  Did + subject + verb 1st form + object?

 

Formula

         P/V: Was/were+ subject + verb 3rd  form + by + object?

 

Examples

(1) A/V: Did we finish our work?

       P/V: Was our work finished by us?

(2) A/V: Did she catch the ball?

      P/V:  Was the ball caught by her?

(3) A/V: Did he bring the water from spring?

      P/V: Was the water brought by him from spring?

(4) A/V: Did they dig their land?

     P/v: Was their land dig by them?

(5) A/V: Did you break the mirror?

       P/V: Was the mirror broken by you?

(6) A/V: Did I get 1st position?

 P/V: Was the 1st position got by me?

(7) A/V: Did the children make a noise?

      P/V: Was noise made by children?

 

Syntax (Structure) Negative + Interrogative


Formula

        A/V: Did + subject + not + verb 1st form + object?

 

Formula

      P/V : Was/were + subject+ not + verb 1st form + object?

 

Examples

(1) A/V: Did they not arrest the thief?

     P/V: Was the thief not arrested by them?

(2) A/V: Did we not spend three days in the path of Allah?

     P/V: Were three days not spent by us in the path of Allah?

(3) A/V: Did he not pass the final exam?

      P/V: Was the final exam not passed by him?

(4) A/V: Did she not press her clothes?

     P/V: Was her clothes not pressed by her?

(5) A/V: Did you not take breakfast?

      P/V: Was breakfast not taken by you?

(6) A/V: Did I not prepare the tea?

     P/V: Was the tea not prepared by me?

(7) A/V: Did Ahmad not break the Pencil?

      P/V: Was the Pencil not broken by Ahmad?
