Parts Of Speech In English Grammar|Preposition And It's Types

 PREPOSITION

                         The word preposition is composed of two parts.

1. The composed (Pre) which means before.

2. The root word (Position which means placement)

So, Preposition basically means “Placement before” noun or pronoun.

Definition

                   Preposition is the word or group of word that show the relationship of noun or pronoun with a rest of sentences.

Examples

1. This is on the Table.

Here +R/S,   Preposition Noun.

Types of Preposition

                                  Preposition are generally divided into Two types.

1. Simple Preposition

                                    Simple Preposition are those preposition which are formed of single word, simple preposition are divided into two types.

i. One sellable simple preposition

                                                          One sellable preposition are those preposition, which contain one words.

Examples

For, in, to, of, on, with, by

ii. Two sellable simple preposition

                          Two sellable simple preposition Which contain more than one sound.

Examples

Between, behind, before, beside, above, about, during etc.

 

 

2. Compound Preposition

                                           Compound preposition are those preposition, which are formed of plural word. 

Compound preposition divided into two types.

i. Two word sequence compound preposition

                                        Two word sequence compound preposition are those preposition, which contain two words.

Examples

               About to, form to next to, because 

ii. Three word sequence compound preposition

                                    Three word sequence preposition are those preposition, which contain three words.

Examples.

In front of, in spite of, in middle of...
